Google CEO Suggests You Change Your Name to Escape His Permanent Record

Saw this interesting article today where Google's CEO talks about teenagers posting questionable stuff online which is then potentially indexed and archived for all eternity. His solution? Let teenagers change their names on becoming an adult.

Curious to hear some other thoughts.

Article on ReadWriteWeb

The Game Crafter has new production facilities

I'm not sure how many amateur tabletop game designers frequent this site, but if you're out there you may recall a post I made last year about The Game Crafter.

Well, they have joined up with another print-on-demand service that will be providing them with a lot of new production options for your game designs. This is definitely going to make me go back and revisit some of my previous designs that I was messing with on their original site.

Unfortunately it looks like the new features haven't rolled out yet, but it will be worth keeping an eye out.

DRM: Artist's Paranoia?

So, this is my way of asking everyone's opinion on the DRM issue. It hasn't been in the media much lately, but like the War in Afghanistan that doesn't mean we should forget about it. So, what does everyone think, morally, technologically or economically of the practice of utilizing Digital Rights Management?

Six Days in Fallujah

Hey guys, brand new to the site but I figured I'd open up with a gaming topic that's been heavy on my mind for a good year now.

In April of 2009, a "survival horror" game based on the Battle of Fallujah was announced for release. As a result of media backlash and public outcry, the game's publisher (Konami) immediately dropped the title and it's been without a publisher ever since. This is a game conceived at the request of veterans of our generation's "great war," built into a narrative form which has been a defining characteristic of our generation: digital gaming.

This is not a game supporting war or promoting murder. This is about the right for the stories of a few service members to be told in the way they would have it told. To perhaps give the rest of the world a chance to understand and witness the sacrifice made by so many each and every day.

I'd like to hear input from intelligent gamers, given the site's namesake, and perhaps put word out so this can get produced and released despite the smear campaign of the "politically correct."

Click here to for a YouTube video with more info.

How to Run Roleplaying Games

I just recently decided to take on the task of running a one-on-one RPG for my wife. Our new baby is keeping us busy, but mostly in a gotta-sit-here-and-feed-him kind of way. So we figured doing some gaming during those times might be a fun way to pass the time.

I wouldn't exactly consider myself to be an expert game master, though, and since GM'ing one-on-one comes with its own set of unique challenges, I thought I'd look around for some practical GM advice to help improve my GM skillset. I ran across a fantastic essay by Greg Stolze called How to Run Roleplaying Games. If his name sounds familiar it's because he has writing credits on dozens of RPGs including Unknown Armies, Wild Talents, Godlike, and a slew of different White Wolf World of Darkness books.

The essay itself is great system-agnostic advice for beginning GMs as well as a refresher course for experienced GMs who may have lost track of their role and responsibilities. It weighs in at 13 pages but it's chock full of great tips and things to think about while running a game. Definitely worth a look!
