Blood for Games
Monday 06 July 2009 - 15:44:47
To be more specific, donate blood and get a free d20 campaign setting. I thought this was an awfully cool idea, so I had to draw some attention to it.

Louis Porter Jr. Design is offering a free PDF copy of the upcoming Obsidian Twilight campaign setting to anyone who donates blood to any local or national blood collection agency such as Red Cross between now and October 30. All you have to do is e-mail them info about your donation and you'll be given a free PDF copy when it is released on October 31.

Obsidian Twilight is currently still in development, but is described by LPJ as what you would get if you combined the Dark Sun and Ravenloft campaign settings.

Kudos to LPJ for a creative promotion that also provides a service to the greater community. See? We gamers aren't all sociopathic misfits!

Would there be anyone willing to do this for me? Both my brother and I had jaundice when we were born; since jaundice is technically blood poison, neither one of us is able to donate blood. You can keep the PDF if you like (though of course I'd prefer a copy), I just think this is a great idea and would participate if it was at all possible. :)

Wow, so having jaundice as a baby means you can never donate blood for the rest of your life? I hadn't heard that before...

Yeah, when I was a teenager, I tried to participate in a blood drive at my high school. One of the screening questions was if you had, at any point in your life, had jaundice. A 'yes' answer to that question disqualifies you, probably out of fear of sickle-cell anemia, hepetitis, or other factors that can cause jaundice. :(

It's at least 12 months without jaundice over here (see question 6 in this flash questionnaire http://www.blood.co.uk/pages/flash_questions.html ). I thought jaundice was a fairly common condition in babies, so a policy of disqualifying everyone who has had jaundice would seem to rule out a large part of the population.
